and so it goes the tour de france was won for the eigth time in a row by an american.
inspired by american domination of this sport, i decided to hop back on my bike to ride around our nearby lake, making it a ten mile trek. texas heat not riding in a long time dehydration = total embarassment. it took me way tooo long to bike ten miles, probably because of the stops i made along the way, not to mention my inclination to blow chunks 3/4 of the way through my ride.
day #2 of riding my bike: still takes a while to get around the lake, but i am finding it much more enjoyable as i am jamming to "clint's workout mix" on my ipod nano. no stops until i complete my route. i think i am ready to make this a daily workout.
so now, i am talking to one of my clients who is a serious biker (he bikes about 40 miles per day) about getting a street bike. my build, as i have been told numerous times, is ideal to be a solid biker. so my stated goal is to start biking again and begin entering races. i am 28 years old, prior military, and have yet to push myself until i absolutely have to. i think that biking a minimum of 3-5 times per week and adhering to a diet that will support this new ambition will move me in the right direction. yes, you are my witnesses. if i slack you can hold me accountable!!!
flight instructing is dominating my time, thoughts and life. i need to find a little balance and this is how i will start. i live less than 1/2 mile away from a lake that serves as a bikers "mecca" in dallas...what excuse do i have now? i will one day be "that guy" who wears spandex shorts and tight silk shirts and bikers shoes (i look good in spandex) and wakes up at 5:00 am on a saturday morning to get "my ride" in for the day and then goes to starbucks to sip on my mocha choca latta latte frappuccino and looks at everyone else like "i am the man!!" for waking up and getting my "daily ride" in. ...ok, so that won't be me. but there is definitely that ambiance when i visit my local starbucks right across the street from the lake. i will try hard not to be that guy. it's past time for me to make this commitment. i have had long enough to slack after getting out of the army.
game on...
